i know 88 is speed density and 89 is mass air flor sensor, which most people with speed density switch over and buy the hardness from ford because it takes mods better and easier to tune, but i got a 94 so i dont know all the facts

that is the main difference unless you have an 88 california emissions car then they are mass air just like the 89 and up

swaping to mass air wont give you any hp, atleast nothing noticable, itll just change how the car reacts to mods...
basically

sd... comp is preset to use a certain a/f mixture at given engine speeds
mass air... sensor reads amount of air coming into the motor and adjusts for that...

^its much more complicated than that but that kinda dumbs it up for ya(no offence). there is a tech article in the stickies thatll explain it in detail if your interested..

if you plan to only do lil mods then stick w. the sd... but anything major and ima suggest switching to mass air, itll make things easier on ya... it can be done w sd but its gonna need a tune after each mod... gonna be a pain in the ***... jmo... and incase your wonderin, mines an 88, its SD and still stock... when the $ comes to do some engine mods a massair system is high on the list for me..
