Clutch Cable Heat Shield

Clutch Cable Heat Shield
I replaced my clutch cable about a year ago b/c it had melted and was tuff. We put in a heat shield between the headers and cable but it is starting to get tight and hard to push again. We routed it as far away from the headers as possible. Is there a good way to route it other than the factory way. I have an adjustable cable with a firewall adjuster. Will adjusting these make it less of an effort to push.
I was reading that the ford OEM pieces are better than aftermarket. I believe I have a steeda piece. Also does anyone make a heat shield/tubing that the clutch cable can go through. I don't really like the look of the heat shield in the engine bay.
