Default Why is the factory firing order not working?

Okay im helping a friend out saturday get the 5.0 factory firing order. Hes a total dumbass and decided to switch his brand new distributor cap with a msd one (same thing) and put the wires in all different orders. THere is some half *** **** going on ( the connector going to the distributor isnt actually attatched, its ziptied to the side of the a.c. compressor. He calls it the superchips are fried. So i used another motorcraft connector in its place. no luck. There are 3 wires going from the distributor to the motorcraft connector piece. For some reason, the superchips (motorcraft distributor connector)doesnt fit onto the distrutor like it should. But its a motorcraft ford factory piece that is supposed to attatch to the distributor and then your supposed to plug in that harness to the distributor. Its got a red cap, but on the side it says motorcraft and it looks like a factory distributor but for some reason the factory firing order isnt right. Guessing and testing with the plug wires, i got it running with a pretty bad miss but couldnt get it perfect. How the hell does the factory firing order not work for this near stock 89 maf stang?

13726548 is the firing order you need, remember, the distributor turns counterclockwise, and the cylinders are numbered front to back, passenger side first.

so 1234 are on the pass side 4 being at the firewall side, and 5678 on the drivers side 8 being at the firewall

The 15426378 is the no H.O. firing order, 13726548 is the H.O. that came in our mustangs

Dont' bother trying the non-h0 firing order.
It will not work.

Obviously something isn't right with the parts swapping your doing, but I can't make heads or tails from your description of the problem.

Maybe I'll try to read it again later.

Good Luck,
jason

Could the rotor and button not be for that distributor, it seems off that a OEM ford distributor would not just drop in and plug in and work... buy a new FORD MOTORCRAFT direct replacement distributor and try again... good luck

May be the dizzy out of a different vehicle. Be sure the motor is a mustang motor. If the firing order isn't HO and the dizzy is different, the motor could have been pulled from a different car.
