why not just get a motor built locally? I personally think crate motors are garbage

Not all crate motors are junk. The good thing about DSS is that you can pretty much tell them what you want and they will build it. A friend of mine has a DSS 331 w/ AFR 205's. His car ran 10.80's on the motor. He spent about $5,000.

I went long block with DSS and VERY happy... in my case it was a 351w though... The good thing about DSS is that they race... they have experience that some local that slaps an engine together doesnt have... I for one highly recommend DSS...

Long block has to do with how much stuff is on it when you buy it, not the size. Short block has nothing, long block has crank, rods, pistons, etc.
