Tranny noise/question

So I actually got on it a little bit today getting on the highway and it sounded like someone was running ice in the blender when I got to around 3500+ rpms in 3rd. 1st and 2nd sounded fine, 3rd is fine under 3500rpm, 4th has a little bit of gear noise that goes away if you put your hand on the shifter, and 5th makes a little noise at low rpms. If you run 5th about 1800rpm+ it's fine.

I've been looking at some prior posts and I do have a short throw shifter (so I do expect to have some gear noise), but I don't know the brand. So I'm wondering if it could be something as simple as adjusting the shift stops? I don't think it's the throw out bearing because I would think that it would be more consistant in every gear. The only other thing I can come up with is maybe chipped teeth in 3rd?

It drives perfect as long as you aren't revving the hell out of it, shifts good, hits the gears no problem and doesn't pop out. Any ideas?

Its not uncommon for gears to break. You could drain the trans fluid into a clean pan and see if you find any pieces in there. There should be close to 2.75 qts of ATF in your trans. The best way to find out what is going on in the trans is to disassemble it.

Yeah, it's coming off the road soon for the winter so that might be the winter project. I just figured if it was chipped it would make noise regardless of the rpm and not just go totally batsh!t over 3500rpm.
