anyone have a 3 speed in a fox body? if so PLEASE give me details. i got to talking with the local tranny shop guys and dude says AOD isn't very good for drag racing. i'm convinced of the same now. lemme know about it! my AOD is about to blow and i need something to replace it with.

90% of serious drag racers have auto's they are much faster and more dependable than a 5 spd when properly built! A stall convertor, shift kit, and valve body will have you all set for modest track duty! Plus gears will help a ton as well!
The AOD is a 3 spd with OD! What kinda shop is that?

not to go off topic, especially in this sense, but yeah, i heard otherwise. for example, camaro SS came automatic for that purpose alone i believe (or atleast heard)

AN AOD can be built up pretty good. But an AOD takes alittle more money than a C4 and they are a little weaker. If your not making a ton of power and its your DD or you drive it on the road allot and want the overdrive to cruise in, then an AOD is a good transmission to put together with a good converter and valve body. But i would go with a non lock up set up so you have your stall in all gears. But if your setting it up for drag racing and driving on the street once and a while then a c4 is your best option. Parts are cheaper, more parts available and they are stronger.

nonono you got me all wrong. the guy said use an auto but not the ford's AOD tranny. he didn't tell me of any others. BTW i only have 3 of 4 gears to work with right now... O/D is busted. it's my DD and i get 16.7 mpg....
