is my car eating oil!? or is it just mee!?

Well ever since my last oil change..my low oil light will come on time to time and when i throw another quart into her..it goes away and will return in the next 2 weeks or so.

When i last changed my oil what i did is:

Bought the Castrol GTX stuff (5 quarts) and a new oil filter, drained my old oil, took off the old oil filter and put her back on( oiled the ring around it also) and then i put the 5 quarts in her and i was done.

Some people told me to put some in the oil filter, isn't that only for diesel's?

I always put some in my filter and lube it up before installing. Also, do you have any leaks? Get under your car and check around your valve covers, oil pan, etc. basically anywhere where oil can escape from. If you cant find anything, put a cardboard box under your car and than you can pinpoint exactally where its comming from. Its not too uncommon though for 5.0's to burn oil, we just had a discussion about this last week. There are alot of people who burn a quart between oil changes.

hmm i am leaking, its just my transmission which im getting fixed payday( monday )

i will do the cardboard box though just to make sure, and if i do put some in my oil filter, it WON'T do anything damaging to my car?

four gallon jug of oil? Do you know how much oil that is? LOL Did you mean 4 quarts? And if you just filled up and your not reading any oil three weeks later you have a serious problem. Check into that. Do you have oil pressure?

did you make sure the old filter gasket wasn't still on the housing and you have a double gasket, cause that'll cause oil to leak, also try putting a lil black light dye in the oil and runnig the car to temp and then checking for leaks around gaskets, covers, and such. I'd be curious to see what your oil pressure is? Good Luck

putting oil in your filter will only help get oil pressure faster. we do that to every filter we can at the shop i work at i dont do it on mine since the filter is on an angle i take down about half a quart or less every 3,000 miles

Your car, like mine and others on the forum, is probably burning a bit of oil...if it's not leaking it. How much oil is it using...in quarts/miles? Quarts per two week period tells us nothing. I am not sure what putting oil in the filter first will do for oil consumption, but it will help get pressure up faster at that first startup. How do your spark plugs look? Does the car smoke when you romp on it? It's easiest to see the smoke at night when there is a car behind you, shining it's lights at your rear end.
