what scan tool with work with a 87?
hi,
have an 87 5.0L with speed density
what scan type scan tool will read the engine codes??
I think 87 is too old for obd II, and can't find a STAR tester on ebay....
oh, and how can you tell its speed density....besides it has no maf?

87 use the EEC IV system. OBDII came in much later in the 90's. I think ACTRON makes a scanner for older EEC IV system, check with Auto Zone or other big auto parts suppliers.
No mass air flowmeter is the only visible difference that tells you it is speed density unless you know the computer part numbers and read it off the ECU.

how hard is it to build up?
everyone seems to say speed density is bad....
what's so bad about speed density, and how can you compensate for this
aka make speed density smarter....
i'd rather not get maf....
