351 or 302
what do u guys think is better.....should i stick to a stock 302 and build it or move on up to a 351

RE: 351 or 302
if your gunnin for aroun 400 horsepower or less stay with the 302, more go to the 351
|
RE: 351 or 302
I'd stay with the 302, I like the stock motor in a car, put the wrong one in and it just doesn't look right IMO... unless you're purely into power go with the 351

RE: 351 or 302
Stay with the 302. Cheaper to build up

RE: 351 or 302
what is your current setup and what are your intentions? street w/ minimal strip duty, resto, huge hp, eetc? are you planning on s/c or turbo? 351W requires different lower intake, headers (302 heads but block is wider), and of course the internals for a 351, but a ton of 302W parts can be used on a 351W. check out the stickies for more detailed info on this... the 302W can safely run 500hp with the proper build the 351W i've been told can handle 600hp +

RE: 351 or 302
i'd do the 351w. unless someone knows what your looking for the 351 is unnoticable in the place of a 302. parts are easy to come by(for the most part) and you can get a great setup out of them. just make sure if you want to run a roller motor that you get a 90's version of the block but for strength you want the 70's version non roller. have fun with your build.

RE: 351 or 302
I dont even know why your asking this question! LoL Depending on your setup I would go with a 351W. If I were to ever pull my motor in my 93 a 351W would go back in without a doubt! No question! You can get them dirt cheap from junkyards, online, etc. They have the same amount of aftermarket parts as a 302, it takes minimal work to swap over (distributer, oil pan, headers, lower manifold). If your doing a rebuild/build most of these parts will be replaced anyway! And you have ALOT more room to grow. Depending on the block they will handle 600+hp... sometimes 700 if its a pre 72 block. And if you get a non roller block you can also have it converted.

RE: 351 or 302
ORIGINAL: 88BlueGT it takes minimal work to swap over (distributer, oil pan, headers, lower manifold). 351W all the way!!!! |
RE: 351 or 302
Yea but most likely if you are going to be rebuilding a motor, etc. you would change most of that stuff anyway (manifold, headers, possibly dizzy, etc) I should of rephrased that... it takes minimal effort over what you would be going through rebuilding a 302.

RE: 351 or 302
r barn dont you need 351 headers because of the wider block for clearance of the strut tower in the fenderwell area?[&:]
