Call a tire shop and give them the sizes, they can give you a size in inches so you can measure your fender wells. Is you car stock ride height, or is it lowered? Mine is lowered 1.5 and I run 235/45's on 17x9's. The front left rubs at full lock.

I would still check the clearance before having them mounted. I want to say that my fender is like 31 inches from the ground, it may a be tad more, and I have 1 fingers width between tire and fender with the 235/45's.

too small... a 255/40/17 is a 25" tire. you want to go with a set of 245/45/17's which are 25.6 and exact to stock dimensions.... and they will clear as well
