Default Pingin Question

So today I decided to advance my timing.... Had alot of issue with pinging at 14, 12 *. Even when it was 10 *. The pinging only happens between 5000-5500 (before shifting).. So I set it to 9*.. Do you guys think something is off on my balancer? There was a mark made at 0* from the previous owner... I don't like pinging [:@]

That should be fine. You sure you're doing it right? Did you remove the spout connector before setting the timing?

Yeah I followed all the instructions and that was one of the steps.. I also put a lucas fuel additive in to clean everything up and did a full tune up. I'm just wondering why the previous owner has a white mark at 0 degrees...

Is it possible for the balancer to be off on a totally stock engine?

I turned car off, hooked up timing light, loosened dist. bolt. Removed spout connector. Started motor, then moved it to 12 going toward the 30 direction (right on balancer)...and it pings between 5000-5500..

YUp, thats the right way. How many miles on it. Is it real bad or just light pinging. It's not as critical as you think. You could try doing an injection/induction service. That may help.
