i've driven both gear ratio's, and for me 3.55's are the better gear. Specially if you do any highway driving.

Thanks everyone. Yeah i do mostly around town and road racing. I do drive about an hour highway everyother weekend, so it isnt a big concern i just wondered. But i do like my top end now (despite it being illegal who doesnt try it once in a great while) will it really drop by about 40 mph? maybe its worth it though for the acceleration?
I have an 86 GT with 3.73s, mostly stock, except for the nitrous kit and traction aids. I corrected the speedo for the gears. I'm getting 17 mpg in town and 25mpg going 75mph on long trips. The car still goes about 140-150 mph in fifth gear turning 4900 or so rpms.

I am thinking of getting some 3.73s. I have a manual so i hear this is more resonable than the 4.10s especially since i drive alot of highway. Is ford racing a good manufacturer or is there a better brand. Also how bad will my gas mileage be, what rpm will i cruise at at 70-80 in 5th gear and how much will it lower my top speed- not that i ever drive that fast anyways im just curious. I want to lower my 0-60 and quartermile some are 3.73s a good plan?
[sm=bling.gif] Go for it... and yeah if you wana do any highway driving dont get 4.10s... unless you get a t-6 that is...
t56 wont help any... that extra gear doesnt come after 5th, its a gear between our 4th and 5th... same od ratio..

I dont think you will like the 3:73 if you are going to do alot of freeway driveing. IMO
I have 3:55 and they are great for what I do. Around town and road racing!
If your main goal is drag racing then go for it!
+1 I wouldnt want my RPMs any higher...

65 mph should be around 2,100 rpm, not 2,500.

+1 yeah, you're right. 2500rpms is 75 mph on my car with 3.73s. 3000 rpms is 90mph. 4000rpms is 120mph. 5000rpms is 150mph.

If you are meaning the t-56, the overdrive gear is the same as the t-5 overdrive. A t-56 is like having another gear in between 3rd and 4th. So 4.10s would be the same in a t-56.
