RE: 3:55 gear questions
You definitely need to get it out on the road and run it before you say you're disappointed with the gears.
And as far as mileage is concerned, when I went from the stock 2.73's to 3.73's, I didn't see much of a change at all, very little. The crusing rpms only increased from 2,000 rpm to 2,300 rpm at 70 mph but the acceleration down low was so much better in all the gears. vfast is right about going to low with street gears, they will wear things out sooner especially if you drive with a lead foot like OB does. He must be obsessed with his 4.10 gears, he is always bragging on them here everytime the subject of gears comes up.

RE: 3:55 gear questions
I went from 2.73s to 3.73s just recentl and will admit I did expect more. Now that I drive it more I realize how did I live with those 2.73s!? Passing gear is awesome now, either 3rd or 4th depending on speed, and the rebuilt Traction-Loc is awesome. Did you rebuild yours, or just throw in the ring an pinion!? Makes big difference for traction. I have worn out street tire that don't get traction in the first place and can't wait to get new wheels and tires to see what it feels like then. Open her up and you'll see the speedo creep up faster.

Only thing I dislike about em is I can't shift into 5th too good when I'm at the 1/4
I'm maxing fourth before I get to the end of it, and If I stay on it I'll hear it knock.
Nut Good
And fifth is a long reach so it seems and since I'm RARELY in fifth its still really stiff because of the shifter I bought a couple months ago.
But other than that Theys Very Fun

RE: 3:55 gear questions
well if i get gears im defenately getting my traction lock rebuilt but i was told that its not realy any good. of course this was coming from a guy trying to sell me a $650 posi.....
im going to the dealer tomorrow and may order gears (get a discount at the dealship) so if some one could tell me if 3.55's are right for my set up, that would be great. you guys mentioned extra wear, but is going from 2.73-3.55 going to make that much wear. i dont want my car to take a dump on me a month later
ok, went back and found that old topic. sense that was about your 4.10's, that would mean that if i got 3.55's, my rpms would be lower at those speeds...correct?

RE: 3:55 gear questions
dont know , ive heard 3.73's are a might as well for the extra kick. plus i hear the only time they are really bad on gas is if you have a lead foot which i think most of us do but if your cruisin the streets you could probly just drive in a higher gear and bang your back down to the low rpm's. which= better GAS MILEAGE

RE: 3:55 gear questions
discount?..you can buy them for 159.00 shipped to your door if you can beat that I want to buy 10 sets*L*...
I think OB doesn't have much under the hood*L*
as for gas mileage I'd say when you put any new gear in your mileage will suffer mainly from your lead front as to "try them out"
