Default t-5 problem!

My t-5 trans. is acting up on me. It just started today.... It shifts through 1st to 2nd fine, and 2nd to 3rd fine, but going out of 3rd it will get stuck like half way out of gear, almost like inbetween 3rd and neutral! it takes a good 5 seconds or so to find its way out back into neutral and into 4th. it does the exact same thing from 4th going into 5th... gets stuck in 4th and I have to play with it as in pushing in the clutch a half dozen times or so before it finds its way out of 4th so I can go into 5th. I dont have a clue of whats goin on and I need helf bad.

PLEASE HELP ME

Sounds liek your 3rd gear synchro is takin a dump. Try changing the trans fluid, make sure to use the synchro mesh.

I dont think its a syncro because its not coming out of gear, maybe be a detent or shift fork.

does it do it only w. the car on? if so then im gonna vote syncros aswell, however try to shift it w. the car off. if it does the same thing then im gonna say look at your detents maybe, or prob a shift fork.

if it's only when the car is on then its deffinetly a synco, the get a bur on the dog teeth some times and that will cause it to want to stick in gear... my first gear synco was rounded off (no dog teeth left) and it would come out of 1st.. there are other caused but this is most likly.. the detent bacl will cause this too... take the shifter off and put very little high temp bearing greas (blue or red not the black shi*) and see if that helps

well, something moved in the trans today.??? Now it exits 3rd gear fine but still does the same thing in 4th. it will go into 4th fine, as normally. However, it gets stuck in 4th and wont come out unless I play with it by pressing clutch a few times, or if I come to a complete stop.

A buddy of mine was telling me to get GM syncro mesh and see how that works. I guess its a more lubricated version of AOD fluid.

I have been skipping 4th all together, but it woould be nice to have 4th gear!

It shifts fine when the car is off. thats to be expected.

My clutch is pretty burned out. Maybe a factor in this priblem?? you tell me. i need to replace it, but havent had the time to do so. but still, it's not so severe tha it's not driveable. still engages/disengages ok.

I def. dont think it a syncro... I know my t-5's and it would gring going into gear...not get stuck/lost in gear.

any more suggestions??

by the way, im selling the car, so if anyone wants a project car...let me know! pictures available through e-mail
