I was just looking up how to Identify the rear axle in the CHILTON MUSTANG book. It says if the axle identification has W it means it has 3.73 Axle Ratio Limited-Slip. So does that mean sum stangs come with 3.73 gears already in or am I wrong?

I would say that is all tags for all 8.8 ford rears. Alot of explorers came with 8.8 3.73's

3.08 was the only other option I believe.

I just checked my parts catalogue and it lists 2.73, 3.08, 3.27, and 3.73 as options.

So is it possible that i could put a exploer rear end on my stang will it fit ?

the housing itself will be same, but mounting location, control arm mounts, and axle length will be different, you'll be better off just buying some gear and a traclok

No, the explorer/ranger 8.8's have an offset diff, so the driveshaft will clear the gas tanks. And yes the exploders and rangers came with 3.73 standard and 4.10 was the towing package option.
