Default Question... don't get mad

Hey i've been reading alot lately about heads and what not to improve performance and i really don't know a whole lote about engines.
all i really know is that there is 8 cylinders (thats sad, but im trying to learn ) i don't what exactly are heads? what do they do? where abouts are they? does anyone have a good diagram of a engine that has pictures and shows what things are? sorry for such a dumb question but im curious.

so once thats on you put something like one of these on top of it?

yes those are valve covers which go on after the heads then the lower intake followed by the upper intake(the t shaped thing)

what does a lower intake look like? if i wasn't scared of wrecking my engine i'd take mine off and look lol

I'm not being a smartass here and I think you asked a good question.

I could go on and on explaining "heads" and the many differences between them to you but the best way for you to learn (as a beginner) would probably be to look at howthingswork.com and then come in with some more specific questions.

Please feel free to aks what ever you like though.

1st pic is head on the block, 2nd pic is lower intake inbetween the heads, then the upper intake goes ontop of that

This is a picture of your lower intake manifold ON your car...



And here is a regular picture of it next to the upper intake manifold. The upper bolts directly to the lower.
