4.10 with 5 speed

RE: 4.10 with 5 speed
Hell, with my 3.73 racing, first gear is worthless....I was thinking of going with a 3.55(I think it would help in the 1/4) or a 4.10 and skip first gear....I just don't like how fast I run out of gear in first, not good for burn outs...

RE: 4.10 with 5 speed
Well roasting thru 3rd does not sound good for the 1/4 mile LOL Sounds like alot of fun tho! I have the stock 3.08 and I spin in first but not too much. I'm thinking 3.73 then

heres the deal, you need to single out the replies who are from people who have NEVER DRIVEN IN A 4.10 car
then ask yourself....would you prefer to go
a) mildy fast (3.55 gears)
b) decently fast ( 3.73 gears)
c) ballz out (4.10 gears)
the same loss of mpg is equal among all gearsets steeper than stock, it's in perfect perspective, and so is the performance gain. it's not like you can get a super secret gearset that will knock off ET and maintain mileage. but people will make it sound like it's possible. really they are giving up performance.
each gearset is about 250 rpms (up or down) if you think 250 rpm is gonna make or break you then downgrade and be slower than the rest of us.
these replies drive me nutz, i did 4.10's 3 cars ago w/ a 5-speed and you know what ? it went 13.20's all stock w/ et streets. i swore i'd never do anything different
so guess what ? i did them in my current car too. this time i corrected my speedo , and i still knock down 21 mpg in the summer on the freeway w/ the ac running.
so tell me ? what is 1 single downside of 4.10's ? anyone who really had them will not argue the fact. so listen to those who know, not who guess. sorry if i'm being blunt.

RE: 4.10 with 5 speed
Go with the 4.10s all the way. I have them in my nearly stock 5 five speed and i love it. You wont believe the difference it makes when you drive your car, its like getting addicted all over again. I havent seen a decrease in gas milage, however, i never do highway driving so i dont know what to expect if i did. Either way, 4.10's get my vote.

RE: 4.10 with 5 speed
alot of you people saying 4.10's were probably running a 28" tall tire. i like the look of the 26" tires and thats what im sticking to. i have 4.10's right now, with a 26" tire and a 5 speed the only wraps up to just over 100mph in the 4th gear (can be bad for 1/4 passes). i would say if you stick with the 26" tire go 3.73 or 3.90. if you want a bigger tire on the back go with the 4.10's. i have 4.10's right now and im switching to a 3.73 when i get my put in my new motor.
