Default How do I determine my redline?

I just thought of something. If I recall correctly, my redline is 5900 RPM and the rev limiter is 6250. (Not looking at it so not 100% sure.) But is there a safe way to determine what the redline is and what the reve limiter should be set to?

It's fine the way it is now, but in the very near future I will be upgrading the H/C/I. Once that it done, I should be able to get the RPMs slightly higher without floating the valves or anything. But how can I tell what that number is? Any little bit will help, especially on the top end. With 3.73's I can run out of gears pretty fast when at WOT. Right now my redline speed for 3rd gear at WOT is ~118 MPH and that just aint gonna cut it, lol. I know I could get bigger tires, but oh well.

SO basically, I'm just trying to figure out if theres a way to determine what the redline should be with a new setup.

dyno time will tell you what your peak output is in relation to rpms

i would not exceed 6,500rpm with out some serious valve train uprgades.

most street valve train set-ups will experience valve float at 5,500 rpm with out upgraded springs.

good point but it is not beneficial to rev past peak output

except for third gear...and that's the only place I really need it. Being an Auto, I only have 3 gears plus OD. When at WOT it wont shift into OD. That means that I have to back off it when I redline at WOT in third gear, which is ~118 MPH right now. I figure that if I can get a few hundred more RPM out of it, it may just mean a few more MPH...even if drops, it can't be worse then letting off.

So a Trick Flow top end kit wouldn't really be enough to justify raising it?

no, and unless you have a big flowing intake, your power curve is
going to level out around 5,000 rpm as said before anyway.

I know the power curve would level out.. I was ust hoping for those few extra MPH out of the end of the last gear. Hate running out of gear early.

why not?...valve train/cam selection/and intake are the meat and potatoes of this figure..so when i'm at the track you are saying i should shift at or before my peak?

this would drop me into a weaker power band so why not say 5900 pk and shift at 6500? this would keep me in the hunt for my peak power.

high revs with the right cam will make big hp. but with big hp you need to upgrade the fuel system to support the power
