Default Cam Question

I have a 93 5.0 and the 93 has a different camshaft than the 87-92s right? Well, will a stock cam from a 87-92 work in a 93? If so, would it be worth the trouble of putting in? Any hp gains?

Oh yeah, I only ask because Ive been looking around on ebay tonight at used parts. Is it a big no no to use a used cam, or would that be okay?

I would'nt put in a used cam but if you have to than make sure you buy new roller lifters so they can wear into the cams lobes.

P.S Why not just buy an aftermarket camshaft?

big no no man, i would never buy a used cam unless my friend was selling it and i knew how he drove.....and neways you dont need a new cam unless you get new heads and intake....

and as boosted said get an aftermarket with new rocker arms, lifters, etc....I would recomend Comp Cams, I've always liked them the most but w/e your budget holds but I would wait to setup to a new cam until you have either new heads and intake or ported heads and intake....

I would stay away from a used cam, new ones are relatively inexpensive and with roller cams, you don't have to replace the lifters when you replace the cam unless you really want to, only flat tappet cams need new lifters when you change one. I would call the Comp Cams tech line and talk to them about what you plan to do overall and let them help you decide which cam would work the best for what you want to do with the engine overall. They have the expertise to size a cam to match the overall combination of heads, intake, exhaust, tranny and rear gears to make the engine perform at its best.

I bought a used roller cam and its fine. Roller cams dont wear like Standard cams. But all depends on price also. But dont waiste ur time on buy a stock cam from another stock 5.0.Its way to much trouble.[8D]
