Why is it bad to have it in the passenger compartment?
It's under the rug and wont be out in the damaging weather condition stuff

ORIGINAL: roundman

If you have a hatchback without any firewall, the battery has to be mounted in an approved battery box which has the proper hold downs and is vented to the outside of the vehicle.
Vented to the outside of the vehicle? How does that work? and also, the shutoff switch has to be mounted outside?

OB, what happens if the cable gets scuffed or cut and you get a short in it? Sets fire to the carpet!
NegadivOne, the battery box is sealed with a gasket on the top to not let the hydrogen gas generated by the battery enter the vehicle, so the vent line is just a small tube line from a fitting on the box top that goes down through a hole in the floorboard so the gases can escape to the outside of the vehicle. The shutoff switch must be mounted on the outside rear of the vehicle so that in the event of an accident, the first safety person on the scene can see the switch and shut it off to help prevent a fire possibly caused by the fuel pump continuing to run or sparks from the wiring setting off a fire also.

Bobby, there really isnt a much of a noticeable bulge.

And roundmanNo more Roundmanracing?
And the cable is much safer in the passenger bay I would think.
Wouldnt weather and stuff corrode it?

But I'm just learnin, so you're right[:@]

still racing, just got tired of typing all that when I log in so I asked Amanda to shorten it down and she did it right away!
And a properly insulated battery cable doesn't have to worry about corrosion and stuff under the car.
