Best block

whats up folks, looking to build up a new motor for my 87Gt. What i'm doing is keeping this 302 in there for about a year, just polishing it up, maybe new headers (already has them, in addition to many other things). But, im just learning to control this for now, just got it in september, and im used to driving a honda, so the power and RWD (not to mention 5spd) is all new to me. anyway, it runs 9.2 1/8th on my G-tech, 264hp n 382lb/tq. I want to build up an all new motor (maybe a used block, not sure yet, waiting for suggestions) and not even sure what block will be best. On ebay, i see rebuilt 302's and 351W for less than a grand, a little over with forged pistons. Like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-...QQcmdZViewItem
The motor will be blown by time im done, heard the Vortech 2 with the aftercooler will be the best. I'm not making much money, thats why about a year will be enough time for me to buy everything and have it together. Because other than the motor, i want a bassani exhaust, about 2g worth of body work, other interior parts. That stuff will all be done this witer so by spring the car will look good at least, but im going to try n buy the block at least over winter as well. Anyway, PLEASE give me any suggestios to start with! BTW, the car is going to be a weekend warrior, not much drag, but occasionaly. hoping to run mid-low 12's.

What mods do you have to get 264hp and 382lb/tq? Also, I wouldn't trust G-tech at all. If you really do have 264rwhp then with the right suspension mods you should be running high 12s.

Yeah, there is something definately wrong with this picture indeed. I only heard you say headers, and then other things (stickers and chrome tailpipes?) If your headers give you 40hp, you need to let me in the secret.

like i said it was on my g-tech. not the point anyway, im looking to build up a motor, telling me my numbers are wrong isnt the point, who cares if they are. But the mods i can remember are as follows, ford motor sport headers, flowmaster catback, 3.73's, cold air intake, mass air conversion, alum. driveshaft, stage3 chip, king cobra clutch, i think a couple other things, don't remember because i bought the car with these things. BTW, on my g-tech i put the car weighing at 3200 pounds (I weigh 160, so im sure this isn't 100% accurate, but are there any other factors i can take into consideration?) Please, im just looking for help, so if you need to make fun of me for my lack of knowledge on these cars, please keep it to yourself. I came here to learn, and get help on a motor, not to be told that chrome exhaust tips and stickers will not do anything.

Any type of stock 5.0L block is good up to about 500rwhp. Even there is the very edge of the limits. After that I would tell you to look into a dart 5.0L or the R302 block. Either one will handle anything you throw at it. If you are wanting to go 12's, a stock block will do you fine. Do a nice HCI swap with a solid suspension with some sticky Drag Radials and you will be more than into the 12's hope this helps you out some.

don't get discouraged about the jerks on this forum there are alot of people that know their stuff. like 86/02stang said, you will be good with a stock block in the 12's

thanks, as far as headers would bassani be a good choice since i want that xpipe? what, essentially would be my best bet (money is an issue, but like i said, i expect to spend a year on this motor ALONE, so saving for big parts is something i plan on definetly doing). As well, for cam i was looking at the z303, and i see trick flow intake almost everywhere, are these also the best?

oh yeh, drag radials....could you possibly show me what you mean? This car will be driven on the road mostly, wont see much track. I was told Zero-rated tires will be the best for me, maybe im wrong.

RE: Best block

you probably mean z rated tires which refers to maintained speed. with tires you basically get what you pay for. z rated tires are expensive. drag radials are not good for a daily driver that will be driven in the rain
