Thank you. I am just going to have to deal with it. It is my daily driver, so there is know way I can go swapping motors right now. I do think that I can go along with building a solid suspension and throwing on a decent shot of nitrous. thanks again for the help.

I think I remember reading somewhere that twisted wedge heads will fit on an 86 with no problems, but don't quote me on that.

Anyway, you can buy a set of thumper ported E7s that perform better than GT40xs for $600.

In my summit magazine, the twisted wedge top end kit was tested on a 306 with flat top pistons. ZachW04stang seems pretty certian that they aren't going to work. I just don't know and I don't have the money to take that kind of a chance.

i talked to ford themselves through the ford tech line. they told me there is no aftermarket cylinder head that will just bolt onto a 86 short block without piston to valve clearence problems. e7's also will not fit also.. well they will but you need to notch the pistons just like you would with any other cylinder head you could buy. pretty much.. if you are looking to do heads... change the short block or get the pistons notched... i'm in the same boat as you.

i hear some people have said that the trick flow twisted wedge head will work.. i am not sure if this is correct or not..but..i would think the guys onthe ford tech line would know what there were talking about .. and they said no... they also said that because of the flat top pistons.. forad actualy had to sink the valves deeper into the heads on e6 heads just to make sure there was no piston to valve clearence problems.

Just my $.02

E7's will definitly work, its been a pretty popular swap for 86's for a while. They have the same size valves as 86 heads as well as the same valve location. They are pretty much a direct swap.

Ya'll are driving me crazy!!! I do not know for sure. Does anybody have the summit magazine with red 1950 old's that is totally custom. In it has the trick flow top end kit that was used on a flat top piston motor. Maybe I am just reading something wrong. I hope we all can learn something new about this.

They were probably notched flat tops though.

That would make sense. I wish they would say that. Could a shop do the notching of the pistons with the motor in the car. What does it take to notch a set of pistons

i haven't read this whole threat but if your going to go through the hassle of getting gt40 head off an explorer in a boneyard, why not just pull the whole motor and swap it out... you wont have to pull your pistons and flycut them and you can basically pop the exporer motor right in.
