Code 85--Canister purge solenoid.

I forgot that a couple months ago, I got a code 85--something to do with my canister purge solenoid. I didn't think it mattered much, so I just left it alone. Now I'm wondering what the effects are of not replacing the solenoid. Would it create any idle/driveability issues? Thanks.

hell all my stuff is blocked with resistors to "trick the computer"...joel5.0 would know more...

you won't be able to fill your gas tank very fast.

The canister is to allow gas fumes to vent out. If it's clogged usually you have problems filling your tank.

Thanks 5oh. I was just doing some reading on the internet, and it has been implied that the purge solenoid can cause idle problems if inoperable, as it is connected to engine vacuum. I just wish I could find more information on it.

Thanks for the reply, Mike. No, my car never smells like fuel. It just has a slight rough idle that rocks the car a bit. These days, I'm clutching at straws trying to find a solution to this long standing issue.
