Dropping Fuel Tank
 

Next weekend I get the joy of droping the fuel tank in my 87 gt to replace what I believe is a bad flange on the top of the fuel tank.</P>


I have never droped a tank in this type of car before, how much of a pain in the a$$ is it? If there are any tricks or anything to make it a little easier please let me know Thanks.</P>

It's not bad at all, 2 bolts and the straps come free, just make sure you unbolt the 3 bolts at the filler neck so you can slide it out of the way. It is easier to have the tube slid out of the tank before you drop it but whatever works for you, sounds like a good time to install the 190lph fuel pump too.

Very easy... just make sure you burn off most that gas before you drop it, it helps a lot.

Ok well I have the tank out and I can't seem to find exactly were the leak is coming from, It only leaks when it is running, the leak is 3 little lines of trickle when drivingand then stars to build up a little bit when I come to a stop tight around the rear passanger tire, I think the gasket might be bad by the fuel pump but I don't understand the 3 lines of trickle unless it is the clamps on the lines are bad or something. Please let me know what you think. </P>


I wouldn't be in this situation if my dumb ass would have ran the car for a little to verify were the leak was coming from... ooops oh well</P>

Make sure you do not have any crushed vapor lines. This is what happend to me, it caused pressure to build and blow past the gasket where the fuel pump seats.

Well Just wanted to let you know that Its all taken care of tank is back in and everyting is good to go, I replaced the seals and the retaners in the top of the tank and put the tank back up... put the lines in and started her up. Well it was leaking 10 times as hard as before. so I jacked the car up and started it again and saw that the splice somone used to replace a broken piece of line was all cracked to s**t and I must have cracked it even worse when I put it back on. So I replaced that line and no more leaks. So I didn't even have to drop the tank oh well the retainers and the gaskets got replaced one of them was pretty bad.</P>

That I do, Luckily the guy I bought the car from replacedthe fuel pumplast year with a bbk high performance pump so hopefully I won't have to do that again for a while thanks for the info everyone
