If you want to build a budget machine and get good power out of it without breaking the bank, look on EBAY. GT-40P heads can be had for $300-$400 for the pair, and they offer better performance than your stock E7 heads. They also have a smaller combustion chamber, which raises your compression ratio. The only down side is that you will more than likely want to get them professionally ported. (i would recommend porting the exhaust side, and NOT the intake side... they dont flow too well on the exhaust side, so it will even them out a bit) And it will also require you to get unequal length headers, due to the location of the spark plugs, and their angle!

would they work with the stock headers or do they have to be aftermarket headers?

Can't use stock headers with gt-40P heads due to the plug issue mentioned above.

Your best bet is a set of ford motorsport unequal length headers

get a set of regular gt-40 cast iron heads, you can use w/e headers you want then, if you get ps, you have to either use fms headers or macs, not equals either.
