Backfire??!!

Backfire??!!
Ok so it sounds like my car is backfiring.
I have looked at the exhuast and it still has the stock cats (still ford cats from 87). Could this be the main cause. Also, what would you recommend for some high-flow cats. I believe it has the 40 series flowmaster exhaust.

RE: Backfire??!!
does it pop through the intake or exhaust? Intake means sticking valves or lean condition. Exhaust backfire may be due to an extremely rich condition, an exhaust leak or even a timing issue. The secondary air system will complicate issues here as well. More info needed on when this happens and where it is coming from in order to give good advice.....
