Default speedo

My friend is sellen his stang and i was kinda looken at it. Its a 92 vert with a tko 600 tranny. And the speedo does not work. He said that he got a new one from ford and put it on. It got to much tension or something and broke, now he says that, it needs to be notched in where it goes into the transmision?? does that make any sense or is there something else that could be causeing it to break?

I'm not too sure exactly how the speedo works, but you could always get an electric speedo.

the speedo is controlled by a gear on the end of a cable that gets inserted into the side of the trans. i don't quite understand what you mean by "tension" unless the cable was wrapped around something it shouldn't have been, and eventually snapped. check the cable. no notching of any kind should be required at all.
