Sticky Request: Octane Rating and Combustion Mechanics...
I Edited my term paper I worte for organic chemistry last year make it a little bit easyer to read...
As you read through this keep in mind that the higher the octane rating on a gasoline the hotter the spark and the higher the compression has to be in order to ignite it... Which is why running high octane gasoline and running it through a stock motor is counter productive because the lack of the presence of hexane molecules in high octane gasoline makes it more stable under high compression. That means that it requires a hotter spark with more surface area in order to ignite the fuel...
Higher octane fuel is not more powerful from ignition, it is more powerful because you can fit more air and fuel into the same area producing a stronger explosion...
Let me know if you all would like to add anything... write it up and pm it to me... a sticky would be AWESOME on this as i spent some time on it....

This should clear up some nooby octane posts...
