Something else here too. If you look on the stuff that came with the cam someplace it will tell you the 'lobe lift'. You need to multiply that number by the rocker ratio to know the true lift. You need to know the true lift to begin the valve/piston clearance check.
It should look look this, cam card says .320 lift. Rocker ratio 1.6 so .320X1.6 is .512. The .512 is how much lift you can expect to get in thousands of an inch.
Am I clear as mud?

yea ive been wanting to understand all this for a long time, the only part of the engine that isnt clear to me, ya no? that makes sense so if you have .630 ptv clearance and you run a 1.7 rocker on a larger cam and the lift is .580 you will still be good. thanks alot. is that the clearance for a stock 5.0? the .630?

I just remembered something from a longtime ago in high school. We had one guy that was so full of sh*t. He siad that he replaced his cam without, that is WITHOUT taking the motor out. This gets better..... He said that he didnt even have to take the radiator out. On a V8 Javelin. So he must of had a rubber cam. LOL....

Don't know what the 'stock' clearance is for a 5.0.
It don't matter as you MUST have .080 and you would be much better off with .100
Time to start checking things....
