Here's one that is rated for 1200 max / 600 RMS and it's 1.2 Farad. So do the math and you see 1 Farad for 500 RMS.
Here's a 2.4 Farad setup for 1000 watts RMS.
Here's another popular one that's Sold at Curcuit City. This one also says 1.2 farad for 1200 peak / 600 RMS. Its the one i use.
There are some systems out there that can stretch it out to a slightly higher number, but nowhere near the number you are saying. And you aren't going to cause any problems by stepping up in a size. Not sure where you got that from.

Hope your running nothing smaller than a 2awg wire. If it is really 1500 RMS you need to feed it properly.
Anything smaller might run it too hot or not power it to 100% potential.
