Default How happy will I be?

Alright ! I've finally decided on the plan for over the winter. I have a 92 GT AOD vert and I'm going to put in a shift kit for the auto + tranny cooler, a 410 gear (already bought) and I plan to buy a set of AFR 165 58cc emmission heads. The car runs 15.0's and 15.1's all day I'd love to get into the 13.2 - 13.5 . More importantly i'm wondering how much faster my car is going to FEEL because right now it feels pretty slow. I think losing the 60-80 lbs from the aluminum heads alone will help alot and i'm looking for some comments to help me get through the next two months. I want to be able to take friends for a ride in my car that dont know much about cars and have them saying its FAST when they get out. Also do u think i should get a 3000 stall torque converter also ... i dunno if i'll have the extra $ and would i have any gear left at the end of a 1/4 mile track ?

You will absolutely love the new heads. As for the converter, it will give you a much better launch, but has nothing to do with running out of gear in 1/4 mile.

I thought the converter will make my shifs start quciker , like when it shifts into second it will start at like 3000 rpm instead of like 2000 or w/e it normally shifts at so then i'll only have from 3000 rpm to 5000 or so b4 it changes... meaning i'd be out of gear real quick ? i know it helps the launches cuz of the stall but i also heard it gives you like a smaller rpm band ... if that makes sense ?

3k stall and manual valve body for the tranny, prior to heads... jmo, then save for a full head/cam/intake combo... and your goal should be to have people who do know about cars say its fast....

stall converter engages at the specific rpm... does not effect gears...

thanks sounds good ... i've just been reading about AFR AFR AFR everywhere and i was looking at sumthing either TF TW or AFR but i never thought i'd be able to save up enough ... i really want to get these AFR's for now and then a used edlebrock performer intake or somthing, my buddy has a vert like me with a GT 40 set up and he doesnt even have a gear... his is 5speed and looks fast as hell when he boots it around never really raced him tho... i'm thinking with a 410 and sum AFRs i should be able to smoke him thats basically my goal other than the car feeling fast

If you haven't already purchased the Shift Kit, you may want to hold off and save up for Lentech Valvebody. You can get them new from lentech for $259 and it will help a great deal. It has an electronic OD delete (similar to the AODE.) So you can actualyl manually shift 1-2-D instead of having to shift 1-D-1 to hold 2nd gear. And when you want OD to function normally again, you just flip the switch.

With the valve body, you still get the fast, ahrd, firm shifts from gear to gear. And then you can buy a nice ratchet shifter to give you better control of your gears. It's one hell of a fun combo and is relatively cheap!

Of course, the shift kits are great too, but if you have an AOD instead of an AODE, I'd definately go for the valvebody simply for the added OD delete feature.
