Default 3.73 Speedo Gear Question

I've got a friend with a 95 mustang gt with a 5 speed transmission. We're trying to figure out which speedo gear to use. He has installed a 3.73 gear.

According to Steeda's website it looks like we need a white/23 tooth gear:
http://www.steeda.com/products/speed...tion_gears.php

According to this site, it wants us to use a 7 tooth drive gear and a 21 tooth driven gear or a 6 tooth drive gear and a 18 tooth driven gear. I also noticed this chart does not go past 21 tooth, so maybe they don't stock anything over 21 tooth so their chart will not suggest the 23 tooth that steeda is suggesting. Here is this link:
http://www.hanlonmotorsports.com/T5S...ia=&Ratio=3.73

So basically i'm trying to figure out for sure which gear to use. Does anyone have 3.73 gears and what speedo gear are you useing? Any insight anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I put in a 21 tooth(red) speedo gear and it works fine. Its only a couple miles off (5 usually). I didnt change the drive gear.

you couldnt possibly be more wrong about that. How in the hell can one single gear be right for three different gear sets???

Ben, You need to find out what DRIVE gear you have in your car. I dont know what year stang you have but assuming from your name that its a 95, you have an 8 tooth drive gear. Unfortunatly there is no driven gear that matches up properly with the 8 tooth drive gear to get the proper ratio. You will have to drop the tail section of your transmission (its really not that hard) and replace the drive gear with either a 6 tooth or 7 tooth gear, then you can get the proper driven gear to get your speedo where its supposed to be.

I dont know what it is with you guys and this 23 tooth gear bull****... its not even a ford part. its a jeep part. and your speedo will still be off, even with the 23 tooth gear.

change out the drive gear, and match the driven gear to the new drive gear.

oh and no, thats not my mom... thats Liz Vicious

you need a 6T drive gear and 18T driven gear, period. i just did 3.73s in my '95, this is what you need. there is no "this works for these three gears." you could also go 7T and 21T if you want, but you might as well do the 6T because it will be more accurate and you can go to a lower gear if you want without changing it again. you have to take the back section of your tranny off to do the driven gear though, so its a pain but it will read perfectly when its all done. FOLLOW THAT CHART and dont listen to what anybody says if they say differently. trust me.
