T56 or tko Tranny swap?
Has anyone done a tranny swap? I mean like a t56 or a tko 500. What is needed to make one of these trannys fit into a 91 mustang? I just bought a 91 gt with a paxton supercharger, edelbrock heads, cam and intake and lot of other supporting mods but i think the stock t-5 is not shifting in to 2nd gear very smoothly.

t56 is a really expensive swap if i remember correctly. you could probably go w/ a tko600 for the price. also w/ the t56 you really arent gaining that much on the top end, because the extra gear is between 4th and 5th on a tko. this is all if i remember right, dont quote me, but just some things to check out

depends on what you want
TKO 600 is good for 600 ft/lbs, but is not as smooth as T-56
T-56 is only good for 400 ft/lbs, but will have smoother feeling shift.
it also offers a gear between 4th and 5th
( thats a misconception with 6 speeds, your overdrive is same, you just get a gear between what would normally be 4th and 5th )

TKO 600 is easy swap with McLeod bellhousing
you will need a $100 HP Motorsports swap x-member to mount the TKO 600

Not all T-56's are created equal
Thats the Viper T-56 and yes they are rated for 600+ ft/lbs of torque
they also cost $1000 more than regular T-56

I believe that they sell both the standard T-56 and a viper spec. The viper spec cost alot more but like what has been said is rated nearly 200 ft/lbs higher. just check out the website.

the t-56 isn't rated very high but the viper spec. is 600+, and yes it's an expencive swap... and the 6th gear on them is actualy much longer than the normal 5th....
