Default 10ish grand to spend. need a car and mods

Heres the deal:

https://mustangforums.com/m_2239114/...tm.htm#2239114

So, i think im in the market for an 89 Hatch. Im thinkin LX because they are lighter (but i wont take a notch... i think the hatches are way prettier....) anyways, whats the difference between LX and GT as far as chassis strength, tranny, motor (if any). I think i can pick the car up for under 4k pretty easy, so that leaves 6k for a turbo kit (im thinkin) what else needs to be done to make this run. what can the 5.0 handle as far as power, boost, and whatnot. should i H/C/I first? everything. let me know. I mean, im on the rebound guys, and I need another pony to fill the void [>:].

rigidity, the lx hatch and gt hatch are the same. tranny is the same. you could get a REAL nice H/C/I for that kind of money, then get the turbo kit a little bit later. could go w/ a custom cam when you do the H/C/I. just my .02, the result will be the same, turbo first or H/C/I first. if it was me, i would do the h/c/i then see where you stand. depending on the h/c/i you're going to probably want some suspension work. you could do h/c/i then ALOT of suspension work.

if you go w/ the turbo kit first you're going to need injectors, fuel pump, and a tune.

either way, you win.

The LX and GT are identical as far as chassis, engine, and transmission. The body kit is the only difference, and fog lights. The stock block can handle about 450-500 rwhp...After that you're really stressing it...Much more than that and you're driving around in a bomb. Some take it, and some split the first pass down the track...It all depends on the car. Personally I would H/C/I before I did a power adder, that just seems to me to be the right way to do things. You can get the Trickflow top end kit for about 2000-2200 bucks, which leaves you some money to play with for your turbo, though you prolly won't be able to get an "out of the box" kit like from Hellion or whatnot.

you could put together your own NICE H/C/I kit, then go w/ a kit from ponydown or b&g. those kits are like 3k, leaving 3k for good H/C/I

i dunno a ton about foxs so i cant help u there but if u have 6000ish for mods then i would do these:

1) h/c/i not an expensive trickflow tho... scrap sumthan together for a grand or so... u can find sumthing nice that is used for a price like that i think
like gt-40 or gt-40p and then a cobra intake and a nice cam... get the heads ported if u can

2) think get sum gears and shifter and a nice clutch

3) work a lil suspension... nothing major but all the needed things... control arms/subframes springs.. mayb shocks/struts

4) then get one of those decent 3k turbo kits... i kno they make them for foxes... cuz i was lookin for one for a sn95 and they dont make then... you know bastard child of mustangs and all...

that just my .02 gl with w.e. u do

You can find a nice 5.0 for $5K or less, then spend $5K on a Hellion turbo kit. That will give you 400+hp on a stock engine. A stock 5.0 block can only handle around 500hp so there's no reason to spend money on h/c/i and then a power adder.

If you have 10k, and plan to get a fox this is what I would do.
Find a hatch for like $2000, buy a motor already pumping 350hp, then pocket the rest and save for the turbo later. What people tend to forget is foxes run low on price when they don't have that motor. Maybe what might help is telling what your plan for this? Obviously not a daily driver, how bout a sleeper, drag, or show... Anyhow if I had 10k I wouldn't start building on the motor and expect gains after the next time you dump money in it.

hey sorry about your car man but, another good idea is to look around on ebay maybe for foxes that are already finished and turboed.....it is much cheaper to find something already complete then to biuld one yourself, well....in most cases....good luck with your decision making

this car will be my daily driver. Im thinkin mild boost settings and around 400-450 rwhp. I hear cams dont do much for turbo cars, so i was hoping to turbo and maybe do a head/intake swap. I think the biggest problem will be finding a car.

first of all u guys are all mixed up with a turbo, u forget this car is also very easy to mod and keep n/a and be real fast. Heres what you do ,
1) Buy a gt fox 86-93 stock for like 3-5 grand at most (86 is the lightest gt fox)
2) buy a 351 windsor-3-400 dollars
3) buy afr 185 heads-1400 dollars
4) Get a big cam somethin over 550 lift -220 dollars
5) choose between efi or carb Intake-Trick flow 500 dollars carb- holley 200 dollars
6)get some nice headers and a nice h pipe 4-700 dollars
7) 373's rear gears 200 dollars

After all is said and done u should have a 10 sec street car and for a little more money than a turbo and more horsepower
