Generally is causes loss of power, you may even hear the broken pieces inside the pipe rattling around.

You will here $hit banging around inside of the cats. I after running for a few minutes they will glow a reddish color. There will be a slight loss of power to.

my cats actually blew open on my e350 van when they clogged up....[>:]. That was the only time I have actually had them "clog" up on me. Generally when your cats go the honecomb starts falling apart inside. But yea you should be able to hear it if it starts falling apart in there.

When there clogged normally you will have trouble reving over 2500rpm-3500rpm. There could be bucking, glowing red cats. Cats don't normally just clog themselves unless they break apart. Normally when a cat gets clogged something else is wrong.

put your hand over the exhaust pipe and have someone rev it. the rev should be sluggish and bucking, and the exhaust flow should be very little to none.

if theres none than you have a major problem because that means you had to have blown something for it to leak out somewhere else.
