i've been looking into a 306 kit for a while, and i actually think it will outperform a 347 kit. any thoughts?
a built 306 will never outperform a built 347

to tell you the truth if I had a 351 at the time it would have went that way, but I have but a ton of hours in it with all the porting and extrude honing.it started out to be stock appearing as I could but some where I put on the s/c

True story. And how you said ford motorsports, are you talking about the sportsman block? That's just a new stock block. You can find a used one for alot cheaper then $1000.

Go to the bone yard and find a 302 block, i'm sure you can get one for under 300. But personally i owuld get a 351w block and build that, 408 strocker

what I do time to time is check local machine shops for blocks that people couldn't pay thier bill....I pay the bill which is sometimes discounted and get a free block..JMO

Well i want to get a 351w and start building it over time, and just ake my time with it, but the start would be to get a block. So that just gave me a really good idea on how to get a cheap block ready for action....

is there any kind of machine shop listing with rankings or anything? i don't really have anyone to ask locally about this. or happen by chance to know one in western massachusetts? i really don't wanna consult the yellow pages for this, no way to assure reputability.
