RE: Need aftermarket head advice
From what I've heard and read, trick flow twisted wedge heads really can't be beat. For about $1100-1200 they aren't too bad. They'll outflow stock heads that have been built and ported for about the same price even. You'll also save about 40-50 lbs with aluminum heads if it's a concern.

i was also really thinking bout the afr's but what size would i need 165 185 205, for my setup, alos if i went to a stroker what size would would i need, iwas thinking that the 185 would be perfect for the stroker, but would it be too much for what i got now and will the heads be ok with the e-cam

sorry guy im in the same boat and no one seems to explain if the 185's are too much now if you are going with a bigger displacement later. the 185's have 2.02 in and 1.6 or 1.90 ex which i think is just a little too much valve for an almost stock engine without the right intake manifold/cam/fuel-air tuning. but ill leave the guesswork to the pros

I was also wondering if the 185's would be too much for a stock block, because i plan on stroking soon, to a 331 probably. Also was wondering if the stock headers are too small, i'll need a bigger size header for it to flow smooth right? What size would be best for a 331 with afr 185s and a new intake manifold.

somthing alot of people do not consider when buying alum. heads is that you NEED to bump the compression up abput 3/4 to 1 full point fromm stock to take full advantage of them. You can mill the heads or use thinner head gaskets or find heads with smaller combustion chambers. The afr 185's would work for now and really shine if you stroke the engine later. I have also had good luck with Trick Flows, if you go trick flow get the twisted wedge and replace the weak 3/8 rocker studs with a nice set of arp 7/16 studs. The twisted wedge heads and track heats are very similar and flow very close to the same numbers, the main difference is the afformentioned rocker stud and the engraving. I have seen a sbf (306) make 610 hp on a set of of the shelf twisted wedge heads, it did have an S-trim vortec on it, but it also had a stock 5.0 camshaft
