Because Superchargers are over priced at the moment. Just not worth that much. (think it has to do with what the price of old school chargers were. which are still very high) Plus all a Vortech charger is, is the compressor from a turbo that is gear driven. And you can get a turbo for a couple of hundred. Though you can keep temps lower, and have better flowing exhaust with a Vortech. The market price for them is just way high.

And as for power estimates. It all has to do with what your intake pressures will be. They can vary with gear changes. Mosts kits are lame. You have to know how to tweak them. Most kits that I have seen use no BOV, and are geared to make approx 5psi of boost. Thats the secret.

vortechs are on ebay all the time! If it needs it, you can have vortech rebuild the head unit, but most of the time guys sell them on ebay to upgrade to a bigger s/c!

There are many places that sell COmplete Procharger kits for around $2,500. It does not come with an intercooler, but those aren't always necessary if you are running no more than 10 PSI. If you can't make your own intercooler, you could always spend $300 or so more on a water / methanol injection kit for chemical intercooling.
