Default Turbo 5.0 rx7 project

This is for street, strip purpose. So it will be a daily, with that being said.

First off does someone have actual proof that the pistons are forged trw pistons from 85 to 92 in the stangs? the 96 up being flat and the 85 being dished

second I have been reading up on heads- mostly the gt40 heads- the GT-40 (X303) heads. Do they come from a car or from or do i have to order them through ford or whoever?

as for the turbo setup. if i am looking for no more then 400tq 400hp;

1. what intake do i need and where do i get it (links please)

2. and are there any inexpensive turbo exahuast manifolds out there?

3. lastly what turbo do you recomend? 2 smalls ones or one big one. IYO

-------------

thanx for any replies in advance.

1. yes 87-92 stangs had Forged pistons, no worries about that.

2. they are all flat top with valve reliefs except for pre 86 which had no valve reliefs

3. Forget the Ford GT-40X heads, no they are aftermarket head that has to be ordered
I would get the TrickFlow top end kit, comes with heads, cam, intake, rockers, pushrods ...... the works

Now if you only want 400rwhp a good turbo kit will make that a on stock engine
go with the Hellion kit, they fit good and have them in stock for immediate shipping.
most other kits have 2-6 month wait.

1 big single turbo is better, turbo lag is a thing of the past.

if you dont want this whole kit any of its sub parts would be good.

forged pistons are 85-92

for the turbo kit, go w/ a single setup. it will be much easier to fabricate the piping, it will also save money. i would suggest a t3/t4 flange due to the wide range of turbos available. as far as the exhaust manifold im not sure of any places that sell them individually, other than hpperformance.com. they have great kits, one of their kits will get you in the 11s on a stock motor. a few other places that make good, less expensive kits are ponydown.com and b & g. il grab links for those if you would like.

Instead of putting it into an RX-7, go with your screen name and drop it into a vega instead. I've always wanted to do something like that.

1. 85-92 (84 1/2 actually) all had forged pistons stock.

2. My '85 has 4 valve reliefs per piston, theyre not true flattops.

3.+1, forget gt-40 heads, theyre not worth the money, TFS heasd are MUCH better. But they are more expensive. If money is a concern, get some '69 or '70 351Windsor heads, they will need machine work but overall cost including the heads should be no more than $600. You can identify the heads from the casting numbers which will be C9OE or D0OE. those heads are basically the same thing as the GT-40's, except theyre cast iron (MUCH more durable). They WILL need to have hardened valve seats put in, and while youre at it might as well have guide plates and screw-in rocker studs put in.
