well ive never looked myself.. this girl just makes it seem like the hardest motor to build in the world. i dont know whats done to hers but for a 40+ year old engine it moves. my 5.0 is faster but her car seems to pull harder.. gotta love those 4 barrels

my buddy has a 66 coupe w/ a 289 and he smoked me. claims he doesnt know whats done to it because his dad bought the car for him. i also rebuilt a 289 at school w/ an edelbrock intake and a holley 4barrel. but havent gotten the chance to start it yet. and i think it would be a 4.9Liter?

289's are destroked 302's...block is the same and parts are interchangeable....being an early block, it's stronger than the 5.0L blocks, same deck height....the only major differences are a 2-piece rear main seal and not roller ready (short boss lifters)......

welll.. kinda true. lol.. but a 302 is actually a stroked 289. they made the 302 to make an engine be as close as they could to a 5.0 liter rulle for the trans am racing series of the late 60's.. same way the chevy 302 came along.. but that was actually a destroked 327 i think.

parts are hard to find. 289 was only used for what.. 4 years i think? one of my co-workers has a 64-1/2 mustang with a 289 and shes been "trying" to build it up for years now
289 parts are so easy to find. Now hipo parts are hard to find, I've got the heads and now all I need is a block.

289 was very good engine, most parts interchange with the 302, you shouldn't have any problem finding parts

yea almost anythin from a 302 is bolt on to a 289, and they are great motors, light weight and cant be killed but a big carb and cam w/ a set of afr 165's they work and you will have one hell of a nasty motor
