anyone know anything about 289s?
i came across a good deal on a 1967 ford 289 motor, complete running. I was wondering if these motors are any good, or if their worth buying to put heads/cam/intake on for my rolling chassis. if anyone has any info on them or thinks i should or shouldnt get it, let me know. Thanks.

i had one in a 66 mustang coupe.. man i miss that car.. i could not kill that motor. all it had was a edlebrock intake. a 600 cfm holley carb... a edlebrock performer cam and headers and that was it.. and that thing was faster then my 86 gt. but hey.. i say if it's a good deal.. pick it up. build a high winding motor and throw a dual stage nitrous set up on it. and throw it into your rolling chassis.. but make the rolling chassis ugly and dented and throw some spray paint on it and some bondo just tomake it look even uglier and have yourself one hell of an ugly sleeper.

Well, I know you probably feel comfortable talking to your 5.0 brothers here - but you should ask this in the Classic section where all the knowlege on that engine is

parts are hard to find. 289 was only used for what.. 4 years i think? one of my co-workers has a 64-1/2 mustang with a 289 and shes been "trying" to build it up for years now

pretty much.. look in a summit and there ae motor parts all through it for a 289.. anything but roller cam stuff will work.. but a cam for a 289/302 is identical. and +1 on revving the $h!t out of it. i wanted to do the same thing to my 289.. turn it into a 7000rpm+ revving rocket ship but never got the chance.
