Im surprised everyone is all over this guy. I mean shifting at 2K isnt that bad. Its definitly better than shifting at 6K. That bike analogy is good but It exagerates it a lot. I usually shift around 2500 cruising and every now and then punch it but i wouldnt say 2K is that bad. It does save gas mileage but then again who cares? these are 5.0s. I do like to save gas mileage every once in awhile instead of filling up every 2 days because I gun it all the time.
Anyways...
Thats pretty crazy how that ring came out. I swear it was too big when I had my 302 rebuilt and had to replace it. Those are usually jammed in there. but yea that is probably what caused it but I wouldnt be so sure your internals are all good after that grinding.
im with this guy most of the time when i drive my car i baby shift it at 2500 or so, but it does see 5000+ rpm at least ONCE on the rare occasion that it might come out of the garage.

I usually shift my car around 2500 rpm's. Why would you want to always run the car to 6000 rpm's? I'm pretty sure the guy meant for regular street driving. I have only taken my car past 5K once or twice. I just don't need to take it that far into the rpm's unless I am racing. Sorry to hear about the blown motor. Wish you the best of luck.

i am going out on a limb to guess this.. but from everything you have said.. i bet your ballancer was bad.. witch made your crank get stress fractures.. then your crank broke and walked foreward and took out your block.. atleast thats my guess.
