it depends on options and trans first of all, curb weight is not accurate reflection of thre cars weight, that is w/ no fluids whatsover
no mustang EVER weighed under 3000 lbs i can guarantee that.
my '89 5-speed notch w/ 1/4 tank and me in it was 3250 (i weigh about 140) it was w/ skinnies and convo pro's , also was all manual optioned car, ac and smog deleted , the rest full weight, nothing else gutted from it.
aod is about 100-150 lbs more than a 5-speed
and where do you live ? i know where there is a roller notch for sale for $1250
complete ex-texas patrol car, needs motor and trans , could use paint , rustfree
detroit area

Your best bet is to find a 4 banger notch and do the 5.0 swap it will be cheaper than a v8 notch.

RE: What was the lighest year mustang?
Yours would be 3110 without you in it. A 4 cylinder engine weights around 100 pounds less than a 302. Im pretty sure under 3000 is more than possible.

RE: What was the lighest year mustang?
basically what im looking at right now is after its stripped it wont matter, any notchback would weigh the same regardless of options because they would all be removed.

ahhh awesome thats exactly what I was looking for. I just sold a 64.5 mustang to damn.. o well it was a numbers matching 260 car made in the first 3 months of production I wouldn't have made it into a drag car ne way.

RE: What was the lighest year mustang?
the earliest mustangs were indeed the lightest, Im not even sure if the foxes were lighter than the mustang 2s. they werent much heavier than the 1rst gens, and a bit smaller so Id say the mustang 2 would be the best choice if your going to gut it anyway. And especially if your on any sort of budget.

RE: What was the lighest year mustang?
To give you some sort of an idea about how much wieght there is that can come out of a FOX body, my '84 GT hatch has a shipping wieght of 3279#.
Set-up for drag racing with a 5.0/C-4/8.8 combo in it its 2860# with me in the car.
BTW 52% of the wieght is no the rear wheels.
I know where another 40 or so pounds could come out of it. I'm still on the stock front K member and suspension.......

RE: What was the lighest year mustang?
No, because the early Mustang coupe will also be about that heavy but it has some REAL disadvantages.
1) The '64-'70 Stangs are much worse to get big tires (like 10.5w's) onto.
2) They will end up being much more expensive by the time you are racing it.
3) They are not as slick as the FOX body when you think of aerodynamics.
3) they do not have as good of drivers visibilty out of the car as do the later FOX body cars. This fact becomes important if you are going to bracket race at all.....
