Default backspacing?

What is the maximum back spacing for a 17" wheel on a fox body? Of course the fender is rolled and quad shock removed.

Default RE: backspacing?

This is from a parts catolog.

93 Cobra rim ???
95 5-lug Cobra rim is 5.98" for 94-04
95 4-lug Cobra rim is 5.15" for 79-93
98 Cobra rim is 5.72" for 94-04
99 Cobra rim is 5.72" for a 94-04
00 Cobra R rim is 6.12" for 94-04
03 Cobra rim is 6.12" for a 94-04
Bullit rim is 5.72" for a 94-04
Mach 1 rim is 5.72" for a 94-04

I think. Thats just the backspacing of the rims themselves tho. Not sure whats good from car to car.

If anybody is buying 93 Cobra rims, some aftermarket (8.5") 93 Cobra rims will put the tires further out than the factory original. Using no larger than a 245/45 front and rear is recommended. Rolling the fender is required if youre lowering on a 275/40 series tire. The tire will be close. Probably true for plenty of other rims to. Just a word of caution.

Width of the rim is relevant to what backspacing you can get...

I have a 9" rim w/ a 6.0 back space and a 275/40/17 tire. Fits perfect, quads removed, no rolling of the fender. No rubbing either.

Yeah, that gives it like +3in towards the outside. I am hoping I can do 4in in the front and 5in in the back.

By "quads", do you mean the front GT air damn? Or struts?

I am going to try to get a 10.5 inch rim on the back of my GT.

To Evil_F: when we say quads we mean the quad shocks in the rear end. They are the shocks that help with wheel hop in the back but can be taken out and upgraded lower control arms. Just gives you a few more inches of clearence for wider rims and tires.
