24 # injectors gas mileage

RE: 24 # injectors gas mileage
how you drive has a big effect on gas mileage you get. if you haven't modded the engine that much, then the 19# injectors are big enough for the job but if you have a heavy foot and rev high on each gear change, you won't get the gas mileage that you could by changing you driving style. I used to get around 17 mpg on average with my 88 AOD with 3.73 gears in it before I took it off the street. my mix of daily driving was about 75% crusing the interstate at 70 mph and the rest in traffic on secondary roads with the normal amount of starts/stops. I know of guys who could only get 12 mpg or less because they were always winding out each gear and jack rabbit starting away from stops etc. yet they wouldn't listen when told if they changed how they drove, they could get much better mileage out of their cars. if you really are that concerned, then take the car to a shop and have them run a diagnostic check to make sure all the engine control systems are functioning correctly as it don't take much being off to hurt the performance and efficiency of these computer controlled motors.

^ what he said...
and I'll say again going from 19# to 24# will not affect your gas mileage one bit, your engines only gonna use what it can - the 24#'s just allows you to use more but unless your already maxing out your 19#ers than nothings gonna change. Im not sure what mods you have but unless you have heads and cams or a power adder you don't need 24#ers unless your just trying to be safe - in which case performance or gas mileage won't be affected. Just be sure your mass air meter is calibrated for 24#'ers if you go that route.
Im not trying to say not to switch, only saying that it seems like 90% of the people switching to larger injectors are doing it for the wrong reasons. 19# injectors support approx 304 hp at 90% duty cycle, thats 80 more hp over what a stock 5.0 puts out.

RE: 24 # injectors gas mileage
right on, no understand that. that is one of the reasons i joined this website is to get everyones bestopinions through experience. but i have intake/cam coming in the next month, and the heads shortly therafter. i was just trying to get a feel for the gas mileage i would lose. you know just lookin ahead a little. because by no means am i trying to jump into bigger injectors. so are you saying that the engine only takes what it needs, does it actually go from spraying smaller amount, and then to larger amounts as you get onto it? if that holds true then i am surprised i never knew. but once upgrade these parts, the engine automatically feel that it needs more gas? and so maybe thats where the bigger injectors come into play. but i was trying to base the question on how much will my gas mileage go down after these upgrades with the larger injectors. but if i still drive it the same way i do now, (which is low rpm's) i shouldnt see too much of a change in gas mileage or will the upgrades drop it down at every rpm level?

Why don't you go to the link below and order "Ford Electronic Fuel Injection" for $29.99 and study it very carefully until you understand what the man is trying to explain!
