new water pump
well my water pump has been slowly dying on me (i.e. its bleeding to death) and i just cant stand it anymore. i have to fill the radiator every 2 days or so. the water pump is leaking from a small hole just below where the pulley is. there is a hole just like it on top but no leaking is happening there. heres the pump im looking at....what do you think? http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...Ntt=sum-313004
also, what the hell is this and how does it work? http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...tt=bra-3875-03

RE: new water pump
thats water pump looks pretty decent. the edelbrock high flow water pumps are top of the line thouhg, you can pick one up for around $150. I am wondering myslef what the hek that thing is, lol

I dont know if I would trust that second thing. Why would you want to impede the flow? If it's that great dont you think that they would put one on to begin with? I dont know... Just my opnion....

RE: new water pump
why pay that much for a water pump when you can get a stock replacment pump at NAPA for less than $30? Save your dough for something you really need instead.
and that other thing is a thin metal plate that goes on the back side of the water pump impeller to improve its pumping efficiency and make it pump more flow than a stock pump without the cost of a high flow pump. it does not impeded the flow at all, it makes it flow more instead.

RE: new water pump
I don't think most cars need the extra flow myself, and you have to remember there ain't no such thing as a free lunch! more flow means the water pump will steal more HP away from the rear wheels. as far as the how the disks, it's magic! LOL
it actually closes in the back side of the pump impeller which changes it from an open one to a closed one and that makes it much more efficient at moving the water through the pump and thus it increases the flow. problem with installing it is that you have to pop rivet it onto the impeller and it's easy to get it out of balance that way and this would wear out the bearing and pump seal much faster than it should, so I wouldn't mess with it myself.

just curious about that thing....wasnt realy interested. i called autozone and they have a new pump with a life time warrenty for $32.99 and a rebuilt pump for $19.99 with a one year warrenty so i think im going to go with the new one. hell of a lot cheaper then the one from summit.
