Ok after reading another post about people talking bout when the shift and engines coming apart and all I have a quetsion. I bought a 93 Cobra from a lady that got the car in her divorce and she knew nothing about the engine mods other than it had alot of money in it. LOL Just from inspection, I see 70 mm tb, bbk full length headers, underdrive pulleys, and I know it has 3.73 gears. My question is that I see people talking about over reving there engine but How would I know what Over reving mine would be with out knowing the specs of anything. I mean soon as I kick it I am at 6000 rpm usually shift around 6500. Is this two much for these cars. Shoould I be shifting sooner. I mean its pulling hard and fast so I really am not sure. I know if you dont feather the pedal it well roast the tire to about half way thru third. But heck I dont know maybe a stock fox will do that. Any ideas?

On most 5.0s, not sure about the cobra, the redline is 5,900 and the limiter is at 6,250. I dunno if your car can take it or not becuase you do have the GT40 heads and the better valve train. IMO, Better safe than sorry and don't rev it that high

I would guess that you are using the factory tach and it's not very accurate. If you are using an aftermarket tach then someone has put in a chip to bypass the factory rev limiter. If that's the case and you are using a stock block I wouldn't turn it any harder than that.

yea that sounds a lil high, but idk if the cobras can handle more then the others. i no my red line is at 6k, w. no rev limiter...<found out the hard way, missed 3rd. anyway, i shift at abut 5400-5600... you can feel when it stops pulling so hard...

I usually shift at 5400-5600 also...I took it up too high a few times though apparently cause now I've got a blown head gasket or a cracked head, lol. But anyways, don't rev to 6500, there's no point.

Thanks for the advise. I will try to shift around 5500 but man you have to be on the ball to shift that thing at 5500 it revs so much faster than the other 5.0 I have had. I will definalty try to keep it under 6000. Thanks again guys\

Coming from another Cobra owner... shifting past 5200rpms is a waste of time. my car has a bunch of little goodies, while still remaining with a stock motor... and my HP peaks and plateaus around 5050rpms.... 6k and your gonna hurt something

Nah, I brought my old engine right up to rev limit, with 145k on it. And the guy that bought the engine said it still had hatch marks in and only had to re bearing and ring it.

Also when refering to a stock block, I think you mean stock short block cause the block I'm using now in the 347 is stock and hold fine at 7000. My buddy also runs a stock block for his race only car and shifts at 7800...
