Default solenoid going out?

okay so lately (last two days) i've been trying to start my car and i'l get that really fast clicking. i know the bat. is charged and new.

hooking it up to jumper cables doesn't work either therefore i'm pretty sure that the bat is charged.

eventually it might start but it takes forever and is unreliable.

so, is it the solenoid? they can't be but a couple dollars right?

thanks everyone!

yeah, i tried to start it with a dead battery, and i've already tapped it with the back end of a screwdriver.

i'll try that one more time, if not, i'll buy a new one.

thanks for the confirmation!

take it to the local auto parts store and ask them to check it before you buy anything, there are lots of things that could case this. the solenoid is the most commen but, if you get it tested the worst thing that could happen ould be that they say it's bad ad you have to buy a new one... but thats not to bad especialy because your willing to buy a new one anyway

get a new solonoid because its only about $15-20 and if it doesnt fix it then you have a backup when it goes bad.

true, but my "theory" is if it's not broke don't fix it... unless it's go fast parts

Replace the solenoid, it's only $15! And then if that doesn't work check the ground wire on the rear of the engine block going to the firewall, have you had the battery load tested ot did you just use a VOM?

i didn't have the battery tested...but its brand new...

my car just started up twice..the first time it clicked a few times and than cranked and the second time it just started up..

i'm about to check that ground wire..

if thats good, i'll get a new solenoid.

+1 do the free thing first, yea i know it's onlt 20 bux but thats 20 bux he can put towards a go fast mod in stead of a "my car starts now " mod

but hey go fast parts are useless if the car doesn't start
