yes our cars do have a pushrod style camshaft setup(also know as a OHV engine, or over head valve) and no. they arent crappy, they are just old school tech...hell..the corvette still uses a OHV engine.( i hate corvettes.. just need a good example[:@])

no it isn't a joke lol. i was just readin on howstuffworks.com and they mention something about pushrods being not as good as an overhead cam.

The cam actuates long rods that go up through the block and into the head to move the rockers. These long rods add mass to the system, which increases the load on the valve springs. This can limit the speed of pushrod engines; the overhead camshaft, which eliminates the pushrod from the system, is one of the engine technologies that made higher engine speeds possible

thats all correct.. but dont forget about them there rdnecks who run nascar. they use pushrods and rev 9000rpm plus. with the right components a pushrod engine can rev just as high as a overhead cam engine.

pushrod motors have a cam in the middle of the block and rods open the rockers. in a mod motor there are cams over each head and they open the the rockers. this is a very very basic idea of how it works. if you have another Q about it ask.

well no i think i understand it now... just when you don't know yet some stuff can confuse you. but that www.howstuffworks.com site helps with diagrams and pictures so i understand now. so in a DOHC engine would it be expensive to replace the cams or mod them?
