Default Smog pump/ belt question

It sounds like my smog pump is about to die on my car, i was wondering, can i avoid buying a delete kit but just putting a smaller belt on? or would other kinds of problems would then come about? its in a 95 gt, 347 stroker but has the stock 302 smog on

i have that info at home in my ford reference manual but not here. one thing you could do is run a piece of rope around it and use that at the store to pick a belt out same length as rope.
